This year’s Leading Edge Consortium centered around two timely topics: Agility and Resilience. Speakers like Kalifa Oliver, PhD, David Rodriguez, PhD, Gena Cox, PhD, and Shannon Bonner, PhD brought research and case studies to support what drives manager resilience and offered insights on how to build agility within organizations. The programs focused heavily on employee listening, reskilling, DEIB, and remote work. We believe these are signals of upcoming priorities for human resources professionals regardless of organization size and sophistication.
Most notably was keynote speaker, Ben Schneider, PhD and Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Maryland. Dr. Schneider espoused why many leadership consultants and talent managers don’t get the executive buy-in for engagement programs and pinpointed opportunities for engagement to become highly strategic and specific to achieve better outcomes. Our key takeaway from the keynote is: Talent management must focus on strategic employee experiences to achieve organizational success.
Our favorite maverick session goes to consultant Allan Church, PhD, “Perspectives, Perturbations, and Predictions for the Future of Talent and Organizations”. Allan shook things up by bucking fads and focusing on long-term changes in talent management. His research showed stability in talent management practices, and that leadership has not changed significantly over the past decade, despite changes in ways of work.
Other impactful takeaways from LEC 2022:
After the 2022 Leading Edge Consortium we are leaving with renewed perspectives on employee listening, leadership development, and creating better feedback experiences for leaders living through unprecedented times.
